Before Danny's Dog Haven was a nonprofit, there were three German shepherds who defined our home: Elvis, Priscilla, and Kwan Lo. They are not the dogs in our care today, but they are the reason this work exists. We honor them as the founding family of the haven.
Losing them one by one was devastating. Kwan Lo's sudden passing in June 2025 was the turning point. The bond we shared made it clear that the best way to honor her was to help others of her kind—German shepherds and every dog waiting for someone to show up. That promise became sanctuary care, partnerships with other rescues, and eventually Danny's Dog Haven Corporation.

Elvis entered the world under the hardest circumstances. Born with serious brain and nervous system challenges, he was not expected to have a long life—yet he outlived every dog from his generation. He was the first of our trio to leave us, and his stubborn will to stay taught us how deeply a dog can anchor a home.

Priscilla was part of our family long before Danny's Dog Haven had a name—Krystle's dog before we married, and a constant presence in our life together. She was the second of our shepherds to cross the bridge. Her memory is woven into every quiet evening on the couch and every decision to choose patience over hurry.

Kwan Lo was my soulmate dog—the partnership every handler hopes for once in a lifetime. She died suddenly from a ruptured splenic tumor on June 12, 2025. The grief was overwhelming, and it became the seed of this mission: rescue, heal, and advocate for dogs who still have time and love to give. The haven carries her name in spirit every time we open our door to a new dog in need.
What began as a dream of sanctuary for the hardest cases grew into something sustainable: three permanent sanctuary dogs at home, steady care for dogs placed with us by partner rescues, and a Florida nonprofit built to last. Elvis, Priscilla, and Kwan Lo will never meet Bruce, Millie, or Molly—but they are the thread that connects them.
